I overslept again
While it flew out the door
Cozied up in my dreamland
It was not waiting for
Passing away while living
Squandering gifts to the giving
But the door is now locked at the foot of my sleeping face
Didn’t really know you’re hurting
And you wouldn’t let me see
Still I was caught in your crossfire with
Only fools to rescue me
You’re wholly enchanted by all your wounds, cut by another you chose to lose
I’m sorry my pity doesn’t max out your coffers while you cope by
Rejecting the advance I’ve not offered
Buddy, it does not work that way
You can’t put words in my mouth to say —
Let me roll out my finest cliches:
Everyone hurts, Everyone pains.
Still there are folks not smarter than we
Making much more of their abilities
I’ve been on deck for 8 childish years
You’re in the hole caressing your tears
We were not meant to wait to get old
Let’s both wake up and reach for some goal
